The Book of Mormon London: What you need to know about the outrageous West End comedy and how to find tickets

South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone teamed up with hit composer Robert Lopez to unleash this brilliantly shocking musical comedy on the stage. As the title suggests, it’s primarily about the Mormon religion, but there are plenty of different satirical targets here – plus a surprisingly sweet story about friendship.
Two naïve Mormon missionaries, the ambitious Elder Price and the eccentric misfit Elder Cunningham, are sent to a remote village in Uganda which is ruled by a gun-toting warlord. Price begins to despair as they struggle to convert anyone, but compulsive liar Cunningham wins people over with his imaginative stories. The pair are also aided by local girl Nabulungi.
The show has plenty of fun with some of the more outlandish aspects of Mormonism, including its folklore and rules around suppressing unwanted thoughts, and there are provocative jokes, lots of swearing, and some of the zany cartoon humour we all loved in South Park. All this is wrapped up in a big, entertaining stage musical.

The Book of Mormon originally starred Andrew Rannells (Girls) and Josh Gad (Olaf in Frozen). Subsequent cast members include Ben Platt, Gavin Creel, Alexia Khadime, Giles Terera, Denée Benton, and Stephen Webb.
Currently leading the West End cast are Blair Gibson (Jersey Boys, Cinderella) as Elder Price and Conner Peirson (Little Shop of Horrors) as Elder Cunningham. They’re joined by Beatrice Penny-Touré (Mary Poppins), Colin Burnicle (The Play That Goes Wrong), Richard Lloyd-King (Cats), Ron Remke (Kiss Me, Kate) and Edward Baruwa (Avenue Q).
The Book of Mormon won nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Book and Score, Best Direction for Casey Nicholaw and Trey Parker, Best Scenic Design for Scott Pask, and Best Lighting for Brian MacDevitt. It also won the Olivier Award for Best New Musical.
The Book of Mormon runs at the Prince of Wales Theatre, which is on Coventry Street, in the heart of London’s West End. It’s close to Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus and Chinatown.
The Book of Mormon is 2hr 30, including an interval.

The show has a parental advisory for explicit language – and there is a lot of it! Children aged under three will not be admitted to the theatre, and those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Yes! The Book of Mormon is the kind of funny that leaves you gasping for breath – and sometimes just gasping because you can’t believe what you’ve just heard. This show has great one-liners, hilarious characters, huge comic set-pieces, and funny songs and dances. It’s a total joy.
The show follows two mismatched young men who are embarking on their Mormon “mission”: going to another country to try to convert people. They wind up in Uganda, and are completely unsuccessful until one of the pair starts getting creative with the Mormon stories.
The show is appropriate for pretty much all audiences. Although it’s deliberately a rude, crazy, provocative comedy, it’s also a kind-hearted story of friendship, and overall a fun night out. However, it’s not appropriate for younger children or those who might take offence at its explicit language.
